★ If you get your other half chocolates today then how about some tea too! It makes having chocolates so much nicer as it compliments the sweetness. I think a good black tea with milk and sugar would go lovely with any valentines day treats! ★

(Green Tea) Sencha.



Where it's grown: Japan.

How it tastes: Refreshing, fragrant, and pleasant.

Color of the brew: Light yellow-green.

When to drink it: With lunch or dinner or a snack.

Brewing directions: Steep 1-1/2 teaspoons in 1 cup steaming water for 1 minute.

Worth noting: Japan's favorite everyday tea, served hot with meals, and as green iced tea.

(Matcha) Matcha.



Where it's grown: Japan.


How it tastes: Grassy and a little bitter.

Color of the brew: Green with a bit of white froth.

When to drink it: When you want a break from the ordinary.

Brewing Directions: Matcha is powdered green tea, and is not steeped but rather whipped into freshly boiled water. Place 1/2 teaspoon matcha powder in a bowl or large teacup (big enough that you can whip the tea in without spilling). Pour in 1 cup freshly boiled water and stir vigorously with a fork or whisk until frothy.

Worth noting: Matcha was traditionally used in the classical Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu), stirred with a bamboo whisk before being presented to the drinker. Today, matcha is also consumed as a refreshing drink with milk and sugar, served both hot and on ice.

(Black Tea) Ceylon.



Where it's grown : Sri lanka (formerly known as Ceylon), the island nation off the southeast coast of India.

How it tastes: Exotic and aromatic, strong, tart, and a little lemony.

Color of the brew: Reddish amber.

When to drink it: Breakfast or afternoon, with a sweet roll or pastry.

Brewing directions: Steep 1-1/2 teaspoons in 1 cup of boiling water for 4 to 5 minutes.

Worth noting: Sri lanka was once the number one tea producer in the world, but political turmoil has diminished production in recent years.

(Black Tea) Assam.



Where it's grown : The Assam Valley in Northeastern India.

How is tastes: Bold and hearty, with a malt-like aftertaste. Stands up well to milk or lemon. A major ingredient in English or Irish Breakfast tea blends.

Color of the brew: Dark reddish brown.

When to drink it: With a hearty breakfast.

Brewing directions: Steep 1-1/2 teaspoons in 1 cup of boiling water for 4 to 5 minutes.

Worth noting: The Brahmaputra Valley within Assam is the largest single black tea producing area in the world in terms of cultivated land.
